Short Course Extra opportunity to spend 5 days learning linocut printmaking with Ade Adesina. Printmaking using a variety of tools and Dremel. Working on lino blocks, students will be experimenting and developing new skills in drilling and cutting lino.

Ade Adesina
Ade Adesina is an artist living and working in Aberdeen, Scotland. He studied
printmaking at Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, graduating in 2012.
Adesina is a Royal Scottish Academician and a member of the Royal Society of
Painters and Printmakers, The London Group, and the Royal Glasgow Institute of
the Fine Art. His work has been shaped by international residencies at Eton College,
Glasgow Print Studio, Engramme in Quebec, Fossekleiva Kultursenter, Berger
Museum in Norway, and Edinburgh Printmakers. In 2023, he was awarded the Mario
Avati Engraving Prize from the Académie des Beaux-Arts, France. He is currently an
Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the University of Aberdeen (2026) and a Freelands
Foundation Artist-in-Residence at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design,
University of Dundee (2026–2027).
Adesina’s practice offers a visual exploration of ecology and the evolving relationship
between humanity and the natural world. Working across printmaking and
installation, particularly woodcut, linocut, and etching, his work celebrates the
planet’s beauty while addressing urgent environmental concerns such as
deforestation, energy politics, and endangered wildlife. These themes are explored
through a socio-political lens, reflecting the fragile dynamics shaping our global
landscape. Drawing on his dual heritage of African roots and British culture, Adesina
weaves layered imagery and narratives that engage with history, identity, and
collective responsibility. His work invites viewers to reflect on the past, respond to the
present, and consider possible futures.

Transport from Pisa Airport to Barga
Sample Schedule
Day 1: Arrival 16:00. Welcome drinks on the terrace. Dinner.
Day 2: Introduction to linocut printmaking techniques with samples of Ade
Adesina's work and inspiration. Samples of work showing different
linocut techniques will be discussed. Demonstration of cutting and printing of a sample linocut block. Practicing use of dremel, etching needles, lino tools etc on trial lino block.
Day 3: Printing of trial A5 blocks. develop composition of A4 block. Talk about Ade Adesina's work. Cutting the A4 block.
Day 4: Demonstration of different techniques to get various widths, texture,
depth and reduction process etc. Continued linocut printmaking session. Drawing up A4 or A3 lino block for final project.
Day 5: Continue working on lino cuts. Cutting and profing final project. Printing. Experimenting with different colour inks.
Day 6: Develop final print for exhibition. Exhibition. Final dinner.
Day 7: Breakfast and depart 10:00 (own transport arrangements)

Nearest airport is Pisa with taxi, train, bus and car connections to Barga.
Most guests arrive via Pisa or Florence airports and continue by train to Fornaci di Barga station (plus short taxi ride) or take the E5 bus from Lucca which drops you just a short walk from Quattro Archi. Or take our free minibus from Pisa and Lucca on the afternoon of the day of arrival (usually at 15:00 but to be confirmed) . We're happy to help you plan the easiest route and can arrange local transfers if needed.
