QUATTRO ARCHI ....
..... FOUR ARCHES

Creative centre in Tuscany for Art Retreats and more

  • Instagram

Quattro Archi or Four Arches is an art retreat set in the medieval Italian town of Barga in northern Tuscany.  Quattro Archi  (Kwa-Tro Are-Key) offers facilities for artists in residence, art retreats and workshops and other courses, exhibition space and holiday accommodation.

The objective of Quattro Archi is to provide artistic opportunities and holidays for those established, emerging, learning and would-be or interested artists willing to be inspired by the beauty of Barga and the Tuscan lifestyle. Though not a formal charity,  we aim to cover our costs rather than make a profit.

Quattro Archi welcomed the first artists in residence in April 2022 and held the first art courses or art retreats in late summer 2022.  Refurbishment of the building has taken a couple of years and now offers studio space and a gallery alongside a number of accommodation options.  To see the calendar of workshops and art retreats coming up click here .. art courses

Quattro Archi is a life-long ambition of Jane and Michael Richardson who have gradually transformed an Italian town house into a place for the arts to flourish.  The project went in many different directions as the large cantina was cleared of rubble and returned to its former glory.  Superb architectural features emerged along with a complete lack of serviceable drains.  Old cell doors appeared in parallel with large populations of woodworm.  Acquisition of part of the adjoining property provided more accommodation and equipping the workshops creating a real work space.  Now there is space for residential workshops, resident artists, exhibitions, art retreats and holiday accommodation.
